Overland Route of Parks and Angentine Patagonia

Arrival at Balmaceda airport, reception and start of the trip along the Carretera Austral heading south for 100 km. Visit and stops in the surroundings. Accommodation in a simple and basic hostel in the area. Box lunch or lunch type menu, depending on the arrival time of the flight.

Early in the morning, we start the 9km trekking to the majestic Laguna Verde. The trek begins through lenga and ñire forests and continues through a moraine until we reach Laguna Verde, with unique views towards the General Carrera Lake and the Valley of the Ibáñez River. It is estimated 3.30 hours of hiking by path of medium difficulty with several climbs up to the Lagoon. Once at the top, there will be a well-deserved 45-minute break to enjoy a replenishing box lunch and appreciate in all its magnitude the Green Lagoon, which is formed by the water of the imposing glaciers of Cerro Castillo. At the agreed time, we will begin to say goodbye to this natural wonder walking back 2.30 approximate hours. along the same path to the starting point, where we will take our vehicle to continue to the town of Puerto Tranquilo, 83km south. Accommodation at Hostal El Puesto or similar.

Let yourself be carried away by the force of the glacier and the life that surrounds it. A landscape of blue color, with impressive landslides and ice floes that will take you back to another era and remind you of the experience of simply sitting and being embraced by nature. 07:30 am from Puerto Tranquilo, to move by 77Km west to Bahía Exploradores. Upon arrival around 09:30 a.m., you will be greeted by the crew that will accompany you in this unforgettable experience. Before the departure by covered and fast boat for a maximum of 10 passengers, the guide will give a short talk on safety and general description of the trip. Here begins a gentle navigation through the delta of the Exploradores River, a scenario of particular beauty in which breakfast will be enjoyed. In approximately 2,30hr of navigation you will arrive at the San Rafael Lagoon National Park to contemplate the San Rafael Glacier and the magnificent natural scenery that surrounds it. They will enjoy a lunch box-type lunch in front of the blue wall and as a bajativo they will be able to drink the famous whiskey with millenary ice, and enjoy a good coffee. Later they will start the return to Bahía Exploradores, arriving approximately at 5:00 p.m. to the pier of Bahía Exploradores.

 

Return by car to Puerto Tranquilo. Estimated time of arrival at 7:00 p.m.

 

Accommodation at Hostal El Puesto or similar.

Early in the morning we will move to the shores of Lake General Carrera to make a navigation to the Nature Sanctuary “Capillas de Mármol” in kayak, a place of singular scenic beauty, where the waves of the lake have eroded and polished the limestone, forming very attractive caves (2.30hr app). Continuation to the south (68km) to Puerto Bertrand. Lunch type menu at local restaurant. In the afternoon, enjoy rafting activity on the Baker River, the largest river in Chile with class 2 and 3+ rapids. This activity is carried out in the first 6 km of the Baker River, starting from Lake Bertrand, where the equipment with which the descent is done is set up.

At the agreed time, continue for 50 minutes to the south-east to the Patagonia National Park, Park donated by “Tompkins Conservation” to the State of Chile. This day you can make any of the various trail options that are available, from according to the choice of passengers.

Early in the morning, continuing east to cross to Argentina through Paso Roballos, to continue along Route 41 until it joins Route 40, and then continue north to Cuevas de las Manos Park (4hr app). Guided tour with box lunch. This park is an archaeological and cave paintings site located in the deep ravine of the Pinturas River, west of the Province of Santa Cruz. His interest lies in the beauty of the cave paintings, as well as in his great antiquity: until now, the oldest inscriptions are dated the year 7,350 BC, being one of the oldest artistic expressions of the South American peoples and has been declared a Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.

 

In the afternoon, continuation for approximately 4hr towards the south to the sector of Governor Gregores.

In the morning, continuation of the trip to the south along Route 40 to the town of El Chaltén (5hr app), bordering Lake Viedma to the slopes of Mount Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre. Lunch type menu in local restaurant. In the afternoon it is recommended to walk easily but with a constant rise by 1.45hr app, resting in the photo stops to appreciate the views towards the Valley of the River of the Vueltas and partially you will see the colossal and famous Mount Fitz-Roy. Once at the top, we can see in its total magnitude this emblematic stone mass, the Fitz Roy, flanked by Poincenot needles, Saint Exupery, Mermoz and Guillaumet. A few meters away, you take a detour that ends in the beautiful Capri Lagoon, surrounded by forests.

 

The return to El Chaltén will be mostly downhill and along the same trail.

This is the main trekking in the area and one of the most beautiful in the area, as it leads us to the feet of the mythical Mount Fitz Roy. Early in the morning, transfer to the beginning of the trail, which is located 18 km from El Chaltén. Beginning of the hike between lenga and ñire forests, bordering the Blanco River. Following this path, at only 1.15hr of walking you will reach a first viewpoint with an excellent view of the Piedras Blancas Glacier. After this stop, take some pictures and receive information from the guide, after about 1 hour the river is crossed by a suspension bridge, to reach the Base Camp “Rio Blanco”, which is only used by climbers. Here, in addition there is armed, by National Parks, a protection of trunks that serves to take refuge in bad weather. From this point, to those who have more energy, the guide will take you to the Mirador de Laguna de los Tres, which starting at Río Blanco is 500 meters of altitude (1hr). From this viewpoint you can contemplate the spectacular view of the Fitz Roy massif, the lagoon and its glaciers. A few meters away, you can also discover an excellent view of the Sucia Lagoon.

 

After a well-deserved rest and refueling box lunch, the trek back to El Chaltén begins.

Early in the morning, transfer by regular bus to El Calafate (3hr app), to continue in private service for 80km to the majestic Perito Moreno Glacier. Only a few kilometers from El Calafate we can see Lake Argentino with its Redonda Bay. In it you can see an important variety of avifauna, standing out the black-necked swan, flamingo, steam duck, cauquén.Durante the first 40 km. the Patagonian steppe is crossed, passing later to the entrance of the National Park to observe the arboreal vegetation pertaining in its great majority to the family “notofagus” (ñires, cherries, lengas), flowers of diverse colors, between which the notro for its intense red color. Once in the Park / Glacier, we see the majesty that impacts the eyes of the traveler, and parts of the amazement we will walk the stairs or walkways to get different views of the front of the Glacier of 5 km of extension. Box lunch.At the agreed time, return to El Calafate.

At the agreed time, continue towards the Torres del Paine National Park (3.30 to 4hr). Along the way it is possible to spot local fauna including the South American ostrich or ostrich and the guanaco, a wild camelid.

 

Torres del Paine is known worldwide for the massifs that give it its name, giant granite modeled by the force of glacial ice. After entering the park we discovered a series of intense colored lagoons, mountains covered with ice and abundant local fauna. Then we will stop for a 15 minute walk to the Salto Grande on the Paine River.

Free day to explore other areas of interest in the Park, hiking to observe wildlife, or excursion to the Torres Base, or hire a fishing trip, ride, etc., according to the interest of the passengers.


At the end of the afternoon, transfer to Puerto Natales (2hr app). Overnight at Hotel Costa Australis or similar.

Continue to Punta Arenas (3hr app). Rest of the day off to explore this interesting city rich in history.

 

Accommodation at Hotel Cabo de Hornos or similar.

At the agreed time, transfer to the airport.
